Back to School and a Trip to the Park

The thing about the six week summer holiday, when I was a child it lasted forever, and when September finally came around it felt like an age since we were last in school.

Now that I have my own little girl at school it ended too quickly.  I know that there are always the ‘I can’t wait for them to go back to school’ comments but after 4 years of just the two of us sending her off to school last year was such a shock and it was so nice to reconnect. Things are different now of course, she has a little brother, but we still managed to have some good adventures.

First day back

Ted and I are having a pretty chilled week this week.  A lot of the groups that I would take him to don’t get going again until next week and the weather is somewhat hit and miss, but we have managed to get out to the park a couple of times as well as nursery rhymes at the library.  We’re so lucky to live in an area where there are plenty of good parks to go for a walk and a play which means we aren’t just stuck going to the same place every time we want to get out.  I have been favouring a particular park this summer though, centred around a lake, with a river running through and a more natural play area it’s so peaceful there and reminds me of my childhood and playing in the fields and by the brook behind our houses.

I had intended to let Ted have a bit of a wriggle around, maybe have a look at the ducks and play with some leaves and things but in true baby fashion he fell asleep in the car on the way there, didn’t wake when I transferred him to the pram, snoozed the whole way round and then promptly woke up screaming as we drove back out of the car park!  Still I enjoyed my walk and it’s always a huge win when Ted naps in the day.

Anyway that’s all from me today.

A Quiet Day Baking

You know how some days you just can’t get it together to go out into the world with other people?

So we were having one of those days.  Recently Ted has pretty much given up sleeping,  I really hope he’s having a sleep regression because he will literally sleep for about 2 hours in the evening without being held and after that he just wants constant access to the old milk makers.  Anyway, we’re still in the school holidays at the moment so simply staying in and doing nothing just isn’t an option if I want to maintain my sanity – there are only so many times in one day I can hear mummy without wanting to scream.  Don’t get me wrong, I love my girl but she doesn’t handle boredom very well.

On days like these I am so grateful to have my sister nearby.  My niece is only a couple of weeks older than Grace and they’re best friends and play together really well.  When I feel guilty for not giving her a sibling she can play with I remember she has her cousin and we’re so lucky they’re so close.

So the girls went out to play in the garden while my sister and I made lunch and found a recipe for some sandwich biscuits online.  Biscuits are not my forte, when I say I’m going to bake, 99 times out of 100 it will be cake, but these were super easy to make. The girls loved getting super messy making the dough and they loved rolling it out and cutting the shapes.  Baking is such a great activity, they helped with weighing out the ingredients, took turns nicely and there was a built in treat at the end – what’s not to love?

That’s it for today.  See you soon!

Hello and Welcome

Welcome to the life and musings of our little family of four.

Hi there, and welcome.

I’m currently at somewhat of a changing point in my life, coming to an end of my second, and quite possibly final, maternity leave and about to return to work.  Life seems hectic and I worry about missing something and so I’d like an outlet to document our little life so that as my little munchkins get bigger, I can look back and remember the adventures we had.

My name is Ann, I’m 33, a nurse and I’m a mummy of a five year old girl, Grace, and a seven month old boy, Edward, otherwise known as Ted.   I’m married to Daddy Ferguson for almost 9 years (we’ve been together for more than 15! He was pretty much my first boyfriend.)  We live in a tiny house near Preston in the Northwest of England and we enjoy adventures, baking, crafting and generally having as much fun as possible.  So if that sounds like something you’d be interested in hearing more about then come along for the ride.  If not, well, even if no one else wants to read this it will be here for me.

Lets see how this experiment goes anyway! See you soon for the first adventure.
